Wiltshire Historic Churches Trust Visit

Downside Abbey welcomed the Friends of Wiltshire Historic Churches Trust today with over 40 enthusiastic members coming to appreciate the rich architectural composition of the Basilica of St Gregory the Great.

Crossing the border into Somerset, the group later visited St Dominic’s Chapel at Mells Manor, St Andrew’s Church (Mells), St Giles’ Church (Leigh-upon-Mendip) and St Mary, St John the Baptist and All Saints (Witham Friary).

The Friends of Wiltshire Churches is, ‘a non-denominational body […] able to assist non-conformist chapels and Roman Catholic churches as well as Anglican churches by funding repair, improvement and reconstruction.’
