VESPERS AT WELLS CATHEDRAL

Our annual visit to Wells Cathedral to sing Vespers has become part of the Downside monastic calendar, and this year was no exception.

We were warmly welcomed by the Cathedral clergy and the congregation spoke kindly, saying how much they had enjoyed hearing Vespers in the form sung in the Cathedral before the Reformation. The return visit took place on Sunday, when the girl choristers and vicars choral of Wells came to sing Evensong at Downside. Tea is always an important part of ecumenical dialogue – it is there that we can get to know one another a little and that dialogue can actually take place.
