Bygone Days Talk

The Monastery Archives and Library team was pleased to be asked to speak at the local Bygone Days talk this week in Midsomer Norton in conjunction with our new exhibition at Radstock Museum.

The talk was entitled Downside in Pictures and chronicled the history of the community of St Gregory the Great from its beginnings in Douai to its current setting in Somerset. Telling some of the fascinating stories of Downside’s past including the visit of the Australian Ashes team in 1930, the many famous architects who have built various parts of Downside and showing off some of the photographic collections was a pleasure.

The talk was alongside our latest exhibition currently ongoing at Radstock Museum, From Douai to Downside, which showcases Downside’s unique history through some items from the remarkable collections within the Heritage Department here. To read more about our exhibition click here
