ARCHIVES & RECORDS ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE
27 Mar 2019
Simon Johnson, Director of Heritage at Downside Abbey in Somerset, presented a paper to the South West regional meeting of the Archives and Records Association at the Heritage Hub in Gloucester earlier this month.
Forty archivists, records managers and heritage directors attended from the South West to present their work to the heritage industry. The theme of the conference was to highlight the work the heritage industry has done with the development of archives and records.
Simon led the three-year Heritage Lottery Fund ‘Beacon of Learning’ project which redeveloped the Abbey’s archives and Library buildings, securing the collections for future generations. The project was in conjunction with the Abbot’s Office and the Department of Development, and was completed in 2016.
Other speakers included Heather Forbes (Gloucester Archives), Emily Naish (Salisbury Cathedral), Colin Johnston and Anne Buchanan (Bath Record Office) and Bette Baldwin (Clevedon Pier Trust).
