YOUNG CATHOLIC RETREAT – February 2019
19 Feb 2019
Over 40 young Catholics came to Downside Abbey last weekend to experience something of life in a Benedictine Monastery, and to hear talks on the theme ‘Is the Christian Life Possible Today?’
Following an introductory talk given by Dom Anselm meditating on this title by reference to St Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, there followed three talks given by philosopher Sebastian Morello of the Centre for Catholic Formation in London. All of the talks were informative and challenging, exploring issues of considerable importance to young Catholics, who live and work in environments increasingly hostile to Catholic Christians. Discussions following each talk were wide ranging, and sought to resolve actual difficulties confronting young people today.
Despite the serious nature of the talks, the Retreat was also a joyous occasion. There were opportunities for Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, participation at Mass, watching the film Babette’s Feast, and general socialising with the Community and other members of the group. The delicious food prepared by the Caterers was especially appreciated.
Many of the group were sad when the Retreat drew to a close, but no doubt many will return. A wonderful weekend!
