Victorian Society visit Downside Abbey

We were pleased to welcome the Victorian Society to Downside Abbey last week as part of their AGM, held in Bath. Around 100 members (of which we are one!) visited the basilica on a bright and sunny Sunday after Mass. The Victorian Society are a national charity dedicated to fighting for Victorian and Edwardian architecture and heritage.

Downside Abbey was built by some of the finest Victorian (and Edwardian) architects including Edward Joseph Hansom, Archibald Dunn and Thomas Garner.

An exhibition of Dunn and Hansom’s work at St Gregory’s can be found in the chapel of St Isidore. It is open to the public Monday to Friday 1000 – 1600.
