UNIVERSITY OF BRISTOL MANUSCRIPT VISIT

This week students from the University of Bristol visited the library to look at medieval manuscripts which have featured in our recent exhibitions.

Downside Abbey’s partnership with the university continues to develop and the visit from students of the Department of Religion and Theology was another part of this link. During their time here they studied manuscripts which were exhibited this year in our Voices from the Cloister and Bibles of Downside exhibitions. These included our 14th century Rule of St Benedict, 12th century lectionary and 15th century antiphonal.

The students also got a chance to attend midday office, spend time with Dom Anselm hearing about monastic life and the liturgy and have a tour of the abbey church. All in all, it was a good day!
