St Benedict’s Parish Pilgrimage

On 24th September, the feast of Our Lady of Walsingham, the parishioners of St Benedict’s in Stratton-on-the-Fosse made their own pilgrimage to the abbey’s holy door.

The group began with a meditation on Psalm 50 in St Benedict’s church, before making their way to the abbey singing the refrain from the hymn that was specially composed for the Holy Year, Misericordes sicut Pater, Merciful as the Father. On arrival all went through the door and to St Oliver’s altar, where the prayers for the Pope’s intentions were said, followed by Mass and confessions. All looked very happy throughout the pilgrimage and gained much from the day, being greatly encouraged by Dom Leo’s homily.

Sunday also saw the visit of a further group from St Patrick’s parish in Bristol, who had enjoyed their first visit so much that a second group came! They, having come rather further, used a minibus, but also processed through the holy door and were able to gain the indulgence.

The holy door will be sealed on Saturday, 19th November, and the programme of events can be found here.
