SPENDING EASTER WITH DOWNSIDE
06 Apr 2020
We usually run a retreat at Downside Abbey for the Easter Triduum, from Maundy Thursday until Easter Sunday and many people may have wondered how they will take part in the Triduum without coming to Downside or even going to church.
It will be a different experience, but you can still pray the Triduum with us from afar! As most people will know by now, it is not possible for us to livestream our services, so we have been recording the Mass each day and some parts of the Divine Office, and placing them here.
Many churches are livestreaming their services (you can find one source here), including all the services of the Easter Triduum, so we will instead upload some audio resources, consisting of music and a reading, as well as one or more parts of the Divine Office, to help you to pray during the Triduum. We will also upload the homily each day. Keep an eye on our social media to know when something has been uploaded. In this way, we hope that you will be able to take part in our celebration of the great ceremonies of the Triduum, even whilst not physically entering the abbey church. It is also a strange experience for us to have no congregation from the local area, but as a Monastic Community we are fortunate to be able to continue.
In the meantime, the main services will be at the following times at Downside Abbey:
Maundy Thursday Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 6pm
Good Friday Liturgy of the Passion at 3pm
Holy Saturday Easter Vigil at 8pm
Easter Sunday Mass at 10am
