Parish Cricket Match & BBQ

On Sunday 2nd July, Midsomer Norton Cricket Club hosted a cricket match between St Benedict’s Church and the Midsomer Norton Methodists. It was a beautiful sunny day and a mixture of experienced and first time players, boys and girls of all ages played out a friendly but competitive game filled with enthusiasm and laughter.

St Benedict’s scored 153, with good scoring from Andrew Jolliffe, Paul Lane and Amanda Tatar, with everyone contributing except the home captain, out first ball. The Methodists managed to win with a few overs to spare but the fielding side were brave and energetic, especially Elodie and Julia Jolliffe. The undoubted highlight was a sprightly 10 from Father Michael, whose marathon innings came to a close being caught by Jim Eyles the opposing captain, a ball delivered by the Methodist Minister the Rev Stephen Robinson.

Between innings, the players and the 100 strong crowd were treated to a wonderful tea provided by parishioners with a barbecue afterwards. Many thanks to those who baked, cut and prepared.

All agreed that the day was a great success and could be the start of a long tradition.
