NEW POSTULANT AT DOWNSIDE

Any community needs new members to arrive, just as older members go to their eternal reward.

It is great for us at Downside to welcome our new Postulant, a young man in his mid-20s, who had previously worked as a librarian. He has been us for a few months and has recently begun to wear the Postulant’s habit – a tunic and scapular.

As a Postulant, a man begins the process of discerning his vocation from within the monastic community. He attends the full Divine Office, works with members of the community and has classes in prayer and spirituality, whilst becoming accustomed to the day-to-day rhythms of monastic life. Since this period is very much in the early stages of the life, we prefer not to say too much about individuals, but we would ask your prayers for him, for us and for more men to come and join him.
