Monks welcome record number of visitors to mark the end of the ‘Year of Mercy’

The Monastic Community of Downside Abbey welcomed record numbers of visitors to celebrate the end of the Jubilee Year of Mercy, last Saturday.

With a full-day of talks and tours, the celebrations culminated in a Mass service led by Abbot President of the English Benedictine Congregation, Abbot Richard Yeo.

Many felt that although it will be sad not to be welcoming the thousands of pilgrims who have made the journey to Downside during this past year, the Sealing was in fact a beginning, rather than end, as we all seek to take into our world, the light of Christ.
