MONK HISTORIAN PROJECT LAUNCHES

We are extremely excited to announce the start of the British Academy funded Project History for the community – Monk historians and communal heritage with Dr Benjamin Pohl of Bristol University.

This project will be an innovative, engagement-led initiative for studying the production and promotion of historical writing and thought in monastic communities, thus showcasing Benedictine monasteries as key ‘centres of history’ within which historical knowledge has been collected, codified and communicated for generations.

Dr Pohl will be spending a lot of time over the next year here at Downside with the community and in the monastic library. His project will include talks, lectures, an exhibition and we will be keeping you updated here so make sure you come back to find out when you can come to see Dr Pohl at one of his events.

Watch the video below to hear Dr Pohl explain the project himself.
