HISTORY @ DOWNSIDE AND BRISTOL

The monastic community and Dr Simon Johnson, Downside’s Director of Heritage, had a very fruitful workshop with Dr Ben Pohl, Maria Abellán and Alice Morrey from Bristol University’s History Department via Zoom recently, in order to make further progress on the forthcoming on-line exhibition, “History @ Downside. An Exhibition in 20 Objects”.

We spent the morning discussing the nature and range of exhibits and their significance for Downside and an understanding of history, both inside and outside of a monastic community. The exhibits chosen cover a range of topics and eras and will shed a potentially different light on Downside’s collections and the interests of the monastic community.
