HERITAGE OPEN DAYS SUCCESS

We had two fantastic Heritage Open Days here this week at Downside as part of the nationwide event, and it was a huge success!

With just under 200 people visiting the site over two days we are overjoyed that so many people took the time to visit their local heritage and find out more about the history of the abbey. Visitors were able to take a tour of the monastery gardens with the knowledgeable Fr Leo, visit the abbey church and enjoy an organ recital in the afternoon by the excellent Nigel Kerry. Then of course was the visit to the abbey visitor centre for refreshments including cream teas, soup or cakes.

We are indebted to our wonderful team of volunteers who helped ensure the day ran like clockwork and made the event such a huge success. We look forward to welcoming visitors to Downside whether they are visiting the church or just dropping in for a cup of tea.
