General Chapter 2017

The General Chapter of the English Benedictine Congregation meets every four years to discuss matters concerning all our monasteries, including the laws that state how we interpret the Rule.

Abbot Richard, Dom Leo, Dom Anselm and Dom David were all present in different capacities this time. It was a great time to exchange views with other monks and nuns, and as well as the serious discussions, there was a lot of laughter!  At the end of the Chapter Abbot Christopher Jamison of Worth Abbey, one of the Trustees of Downside, was elected to be the new Abbot President. We wish him well in this new role, and thank Abbot Richard for all his hard work for the Congregation over the past sixteen years.
