FR JOSEPH COOMBE-TENNANT TALK
28 Feb 2019
We were lucky enough this week to welcome Bernard Lewis, historian, to Downside where he gave a talk on the fascinating life of a member of the Downside community, Dom Joseph Coombe-Tennant (1913-1989).
With standing room only, a large group of people were enthralled by the almost unbelievable story of Dom Joseph’s life.
Dom Joseph joined the Downside community in 1961 following an extremely eventful life, which was the focus of the talk. From his incredible beginnings as a possible Messiah, to his escape from a Nazi prisoner of war camp, followed by a stint as an MI6 agent, Dom Joseph’s life reads like a Hollywood movie. Our thanks go to Bernard for his time and for sharing his research with us.
The talk was recorded and can be listened to on our Soundcloud here.
A book by Bernard on Dom Joseph is being completed soon and will hopefully be available for purchase in early 2020. Keep an eye on our website as we will be stocking the publication once it is out.
