Easter Sunday Lunch

Over 40 people were treated to a magnificent feast on Easter Sunday at the St. Benedict’s Parish Centre, attached to Downside Abbey, Stratton-on-the-Fosse.

The majority of those attending would otherwise have spent Easter Sunday on their own; instead they feasted on delicious homemade soup, roast lamb with all the trimmings, and a huge choice of desserts, all cooked by volunteers. Many of the helpers were young people of the Parish, and they were joined by Fr. Christopher Calascione, and Br. John George, who both donned white aprons to assist, especially with all the washing up. It was a magnificent occasion, and there is already talk of a repeat performance!

“Pope Francis has asked us to get out of the Church and bring the faith into people’s everyday lives; this is a great initiative that does just that.”
Dom Leo Maidlow Davis, Prior Administrator of Downside Abbey
