The Webster Collection

Dom Raymund Webster was one of Downside’s greatest librarians.

He served in the British Expeditionary Force as a Military Chaplain during the Great War and also spent time in Africa. He was responsible for greatly adding to Edmund Bishop’s collection and spent a good deal of his time buying books from the auction houses of London. The collection includes secular and profane works to complement Bishops’ sacred and devotional texts.
