DOM JOHN MAKES SOLEMN VOWS

It was a great occasion for the whole community at Downside Abbey, as we celebrated the Solemn Profession of monastic vows by Dom John (as he is now called) this morning.

People came from far and wide as well as the local parish and school in order to celebrate with him. Now that he has made Solemn Vows of obedience, stability and conversatio morum, he is a full member of the monastic community and a member of the Chapter, giving him a formal voice and vote on matters of importance.

He spends three days in silent prayer now (like Jesus in the tomb), before he returns to normal monastic life and his studies later this week. We wish him well and assure him of prayer. Ad Multos Annos!
