Catholic Social Teaching Retreat at Downside
22 Feb 2018
Last weekend we were delighted to welcome 60 young people for a retreat based around Catholic Social Teaching, with the opportunity to take part in the celebration of the Divine Office and Mass with the Monastic Community.
Hugh Walters, Head of Theology at Downside School, had prepared 4 excellent talks on the principles of Catholic Social Teaching and the way in which they may be lived out today, as well as the question of how they relate to British Values as defined by the government. We were also pleased to welcome Jacob Rees-Mogg, Member of Parliament for Bath and North-East Somerset, who gave his own perspective on Catholic Social Teaching and its relation to life in modern Britain. Thanks are due to Hugh Walters, for his presentations and the great efforts he put into this, and also to Rina Bird, who organised all the practicalities.
The next retreat is planned for October on the theme of religious freedom.
