Catholic Primary Schools Visit

Downside Abbey was visited by the South Gloucestershire Catholic Primary Schools Cluster on Thursday 21st April, with the school children spending the day exploring the Abbey Church and discovering the history of the building.

Pupils from four schools were able to see the building and get to know how a Benedictine Abbey and Monastery work, whilst also seeing vestments in the sacristy and hear from Fr Boniface and Fr Dominic about other parts of the building. Of particular interest to many of the pupils was the shrine of St Oliver Plunkett.

After lunch in the Weld cafe, the pupils let off some steam outside before getting the opportunity to put some questions to Fr Boniface about the life of a monk.
