BIBLES OF DOWNSIDE EXHIBITION LAUNCH
24 Oct 2019
It was a pleasure to launch our latest exhibition in partnership with the University of Bristol last night. The Bibles of Downside showcases a number of the monastery library’s medieval bibles as well as early printed works.
The monastic community welcomed a large number of guests to Downside who were enthralled by the exhibition of bibles mainly from the rare book collections in the library. Items included were the 13th century Ely Psalter, 12th century Major and Minor Prophets, a 16th century Polyglot bible and a personal bible of St John Henry Newman’s (read more about the new saint’s bible here.)
The exhibition will soon be open on set days for public viewing, details of which will be released shortly.
