Benedictine Cultures Conference – November 2016
03 Nov 2016
From Thursday 27th until Saturday 29th October, Downside hosted a conference examining ‘Benedictine Cultures.’ Speakers examined a wide range of fields, including the life of Dom David Knowles, the Benedictine nuns at East Bergholt, William of Malmesbury and the works of Benedictine monk Calmet. Besides the great papers, there were opportunities to take tours of the Abbey Church and the Monastery Library.
We also had a couple of video presentations from speakers who were unable to attend but who still wished to share their research with the group. These presentations were a great way to break the routine of a standard conference.
It is hoped that the conference papers will be published in a future edition of the Downside Review.
